It was at North Texas that Mike encountered the legendary Michael Brecker who was instrumental in coaxing Mike up to NYC to get his own bite of the Big Apple. It was there that Mike met the musical challenges that he needed to get to the next level. With a growing street cred and paying gigs with all the best guys around, Mike knew his future demanded serious refinement so he took off to North Texas State in search of his destiny. They brought Mike up to listen to all music with discriminating ears and instilled a profound respect for the art form that brought the spiritual and emotional wealth into their home.īy the age of fifteen, Mike was playing bass with the Bowling Green State University Lab Band and sneaking up to Toledo to play in funky little jazz clubs with guys like Eddie Abrams, an aging, local piano legend that had been loosely associated with Bird and other Be Bop giants. There is no center detent in the control pots.Mike Pope was born in the college town of Bowling Green, Ohio in 1970 to well-trained classical musicians and educators. In other words, BOOST(clock wise) = 3 O'clock to 10 O'clock, and CUT(counter clock wise) = 3 O' clock back to 12 O'clock. The FLAT SETTING on the Marcus FMEQ is about 3 O'clock(a 1/4 turn) if 12 O'clock is the lowest setting. Marcus' famous SCOOPED MIDRANGE SOUND probably should ONLY occur when the bass and treble controls are boosted. FLAT SETTING somehow means no frequencies are deleted, or that the sound is virtually transparent, i.e., Aguilar preamps are transparent.:) 2. Currently, on the Fender FMEQ preamp, the midrange frequency level is set for flat or zero, but the bass and treble must be set at an output of level 3 to achieve the FLAT SETTING. Hence, the midrange plays an important part in supporting the notes of the bass. In other words, Bartolini TCT = 3-10-3, and Fender FMEQ = 3, preset to 10 inside the preamp, and 3. The FLAT SETTING on the original Bartolini TCT was BASS =3, MIDRANGE=10, and TREBLE=3. The one thing I know is that the Fender FMEQ preamp is based on the original Bartolini TCT preamp that was popular in the 1980s. Hence, the Fender FMEQ preamp has less total output, but the treble and bass tones are very similar. The lowest treble and bass setting on the Fender FMEQ preamp is -3, but the lowest setting on the Sadowsky, Aguilar, Suhr and Bartolini preamps is 0. Condition :Good More info and reviews from Internet : Marcus miller FMEQ preamp I also never used the active electronics, but now I understand more about it and use it properly thanks to this private email from Tommy Thompson, which I quote with his permission: "For the last few years I have been trying (very hard) to get players to understand that the Fender Marcus Miller preamp (FMEQ preamp) does deliver and sound as good as a Sadowsky, Aguilar, Suhr or Bartolini preamps. Lastly: I'd always say to use a qualified Guitar Tech especially if your unsure about doing it yourself, you don't want to make any mistakes and spoil the moment and getting them to fit it properly is always a good thing. This is a big part of the engine of a bass guitar. If your Intending to use a Musicman or Precision type pickups then again the preamp should give you great control over your sound. Remember it's not just slap bass but it can bark and punch on the back pickup or give warm smooth round bass tones on the front pickup. I hope you get to purchase this the same engine that Marcus used in his Fender Jazz Basses throughout the years and is heard on many of his classic albums and songs even today, a clear voice down in the bass registers. And all for a great price too, this is the same preamp like his that goes into the M Miller bass worth over a thousand pounds (£1000 +) and here you get the engine and power unit of that bass for just over £100 pounds, bargain really □. □Give your bass a power boost and expand a wider range of tones with this ultimate package, you'll be able to dial in all the great sounds of the great Marcus Miller who is a multi Grammy award winner for his bass playing and his musicianship and writing skills.
